The role of the core broker
Core brokers source used parts, identify them, check quality, forecast demand and hold stock. The article calls for this share of the circular economy to be recognised: without a functioning core supply there is no remanufacturing.
Three challenges
- Core supply: remanufacturers need enough cores in the right variant. Too many tie up capital, too few stop production.
- Forecasting and risk: core brokers buy parts before demand is certain. That strains cash flow and requires market knowledge.
- Cheap imports: uncontrolled copies depress sales of reman parts and with them the demand for cores.
Why remanufacturing
The article names the familiar benefits: preservation of material and energy, far lower emissions than new production, reman parts at 60–80% of the new part price according to ERN, skilled jobs in Europe. And it ends with the sentence that has been quoted often since: No cores, no reman.
