The five most common reasons
| Reason | Example | Avoidable? |
|---|---|---|
| Housing damaged | Crack in the turbine housing, broken mounting lug, bent rack | No, but often caused during removal and transport |
| Part opened | Alternator without regulator, turbocharger without core assembly, DMF dismantled | Yes, do not open parts |
| Electronics missing | EPS without control unit, EHPS without electronics, VGT without actuator | Yes, remove complete |
| Wrong variant | Different generation, different connector layout, wrong direction of rotation | Yes, identify by OE number |
| Transport damage | Broken flanges, bent pulley, leaked oil | Yes, pack correctly |
What is not a rejection reason
- Normal wear: shaft play, steering play, worn brushes, seized pistons
- Coarse dirt and light corrosion
- Missing pulley on the alternator
- Missing tie rods on the steering gear
- Missing reservoir on the power steering pump
- Damaged compressor wheel on the turbocharger, as long as the housing is intact
These defects are exactly why the part was replaced. They are fixed during remanufacturing.
Rejection reasons by product group
| Product group | Typical rejection |
|---|---|
| Steering gears | Bent rack, cracked housing, EPS without control unit, cut-off wiring harness |
| Steering boxes | Housing cracks, damaged input shaft splines |
| Power steering pumps | Seized shaft, cracked housing |
| Electric power steering pumps | Without control unit, housing opened, connector cut off |
| Starters | Broken flange, missing solenoid, fire damage |
| Alternators | Broken mounting lugs, bent shaft, fire damage to the windings |
| Brake calipers | Cracks, stripped threads, EPB without actuator motor |
| Clutches | Broken diaphragm spring, opened DMF, leaked grease |
| Turbochargers | Housing cracks, dismantled, VGT without actuator, flanges cut off |
How we reduce rejections
We inspect every core in Hilden before it goes to the remanufacturer. What cannot be remanufactured, we sort out. This lowers the rejection rate at the buyer, and suppliers get clear feedback from us on which parts were not accepted and why.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get rejected parts back?
On request, yes, at your cost. Usually we dispose of them properly if you prefer.
Are rejected parts paid for?
No. We pay for what is accepted as a core after inspection. That is why it pays to sort out parts beforehand using this list.
