Reading the Bosch part number
Bosch numbers have ten digits written in three blocks, for example 0 124 525 035. The first block (0) denotes the product type, the second (124) the product group, the third is the sequential number of the variant. Numbers beginning with 0 986 are Bosch eXchange exchange numbers: the part is already a reman part. Numbers with F 000 are more recent series from the starter and alternator division, today SEG Automotive.
Type plate on the Bosch part
- Alternator: label on the housing shell, often near the regulator, with number, voltage and current (e.g. 14 V 150 A)
- Starter: label or stamping on the pole housing
- Steering gear: label on the housing with part number and OE number, for EPS also on the control unit
SEG Automotive
Since 2018, SEG Automotive has run the starter and alternator business that previously belonged to Bosch. We treat parts with SEG marking like Bosch parts; the number ranges are largely identical.
Typical rejections of Bosch cores
- Alternator without regulator or with a bent shaft
- Starter without solenoid or with a broken flange
- EPS steering gear without control unit or with a cut-off wiring harness
- 0 986 parts that have already been dismantled
Frequently asked questions
Do you also buy Bosch exchange parts (0 986) as cores?
Yes. A reman part that fails again is a core again, as long as it has not been opened.
Are Bosch alternators from commercial vehicles in demand?
Very much so. 24 V alternators and starters from trucks and buses are among the most sought-after cores.
